Gray’s world title earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors
INDIANAPOLIS --
Joseph Gray
(Colorado Springs, Colorado) won the men’s World Mountain Running Championships to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.
Gray, who finished fourth at the last two Championships after winning in 2016, covered the muddy 14km course in Angostura, Argentina, in 1:05:13 to win by eight seconds. His performance led Team USATF to a second-place finish overall.

Grayson Murphy
— Murphy was a dominant winner of the women’s division of the World Mountain Running Championships, taking a 21-second victory.
Jim Walmsley
— Walmsley captured the men’s long course gold at the World Mountain Running Championships by 48 seconds and led Team USATF to a second-place finish, missing the trophy by only two points.
Taylor Werner
— Werner led her Arkansas team to a perfect score at the NCAA Division I South Central Regional, clocking 20:30.3 for 6K on her home course in Fayetteville.
Elly Henes
— Henes won the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional by six seconds in 19:48.9 and led her North Carolina State squad to the team title.
Ella Donaghu
— A Stanford junior, Donaghu won the NCAA Division I women’s West Regional in 19:50.8 for 6K and led the Cardinal to the team title.
