Schwarzman increases total support of the USATF Foundation to $3.15 million
The USATF Foundation is getting into the holiday spirit.
Impressed by Team USA’s effort at the recent IAAF World Championships in Doha, the USATF Foundation, with new support from its largest donor Stephen A. Schwarzman, will be awarding an additional $400,000 in grants to 40 athletes training for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. These grants provide athletes with the financial support they need as they prepare to represent the United States in international competition.
“Our thanks go out to our donors, and in particular Steve, for making this round of funding possible. To be able to provide this level of support to so many athletes is tremendous,” stated USATF Foundation Chairman Bob Greifeld.
Earlier this year the USATF Foundation awarded 25 Stephen A. Schwarzman grant awards in the amount of $25,000 each. These athletes will all receive an additional $10,000 to help with training and other expenses associated with an Olympic year. Additionally, 15 other athletes will receive a $10,000 Stephen A. Schwarzman grant. Over the years Schwarzman’s support has allowed for 191 grants to elite track & field athletes.
“It is a privilege to be able to support these athletes during the critical period leading up to the 2020 Olympics. I’ve enjoyed getting to know many of the grantees and hearing their incredible personal stories, and I look forward to watching them compete in Tokyo. They are a source of inspiration for me and so many others,” added Schwarzman.
In 2017, Stephen A. Schwarzman, Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackstone, became the largest individual donor to the USATF Foundation with an unprecedented $2.5 million donation in support of elite track & field athletes. With today’s gift and other additional donations, Schwarzman’s total support has now risen to $3.15 million.
