Indiana University announced the death of Dr. Phil Henson on Saturday. He was a valued and well-respected member of the Indiana University School faculty for many decades. Dr. Henson served as an IU assistant track and field coach, and cross-country coach, where he mentored numerous All-Americans and Big Ten Champions and served as the Director of track and field competition at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. A holder of two degrees from Indiana University, his career began in 1980 following appointments at Central Connecticut State University and the University of Wisconsin. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Dr. Henson’s life at the Uptown CafĂ©, 102 E. Kirkwood Avenue, this coming Thursday, January 9, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. They encourage you to attend and share refreshments and memories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Sycamore Land Trust in his honor.

Registration remains open for the 2020 USATF Cross Country Championships on January 18 at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, CA. The registration fee is $45, with late registration fees applying after January 10 at 11:59 PST. Click here to register! Find more information on the meet, including registration links, here. The races will be run over a spectator-friendly, European-style 2,000-meter grass loop along East Mission Bay Park. This course was also used for the 2008 and 2011 USATF Cross Country Championships.
