PARIS – While Fred Kerley set an impressive lifetime best of 19.79 in the men’s 200m at the latest Diamond League meet, Olympic silver medalist Kenny Bednarek became the first man to run faster than 20 seconds legally 10 times in one season. The American duo finished in a virtual dead heat in the men's 200m at the third-to-last stop on the Wanda Diamond League circuit at Stade Charlety. Kerley, the silver medalist in the 100m at the Tokyo Olympics, ran a powerful curve and had a very slight lead before Bednarek caught him on the homestretch. In the closing meters, Kerley moved back to the front, if only barely, and crossed the line .005 ahead of the Olympic silver medalist at 200m. Both men were credited with a 19.79, and it was the tenth wind-legal sub-20 of Bednarek's season. Two days after his upset win at Lausanne, Devon Allen turned in a season best 13.08 to place second in the men's 110m hurdles, with Daniel Roberts third in 13.16. Tokyo bronze medalist Allyson Felix finished third in the women's 400m in 50.47, and gold medalist Valarie Allman ended up third in the women's discus with a best of 64.51m/211-7. Chris Nilsen, the Olympic silver medalist, cleared 5.81m/19-0.75 for third in the men's pole vault. Moving to No. 4 on the all-time U.S. women's outdoor 3,000m list, Elise Cranny placed fourth in a lifetime best 8:30.30, slicing more than 10 seconds off her lifetime best. Alicia Monson also took a huge chunk off her personal best with an 8:40.08 in 10th. In non-Diamond League events, Marvin Bracy-Williams won the men's 100m in 10.04. Brussels on September 3 is the next Diamond League stop, with the final at Zurich on Sept. 8-9. Visit the official Diamond League website for more information. USATF Statistician stats@usatf.org
