INDIANAPOLIS -- Continuing his return to the top of the world’s elite sprint ranks, Trayvon Bromell (St. Petersburg, Florida) clocked the fastest 100m time of the year to earn recognition as the 16th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2021. Bromell, eighth at the Rio Games in the 100m and the gold medalist at 60m in 2016 at the World Indoor Championships, zipped to a 9.88 at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville to beat Canada’s Olympic bronze medalist Andre De Grasse and move atop the world performer list. It was the fourth fastest run of Bromell’s career, and his speediest since 2016. The NCAA champion for Baylor in 2014, Bromell was beset by injuries following the 2016 Olympics and only returned to his old form in a brief 2020 campaign that saw him record a best of 9.90. Back at full steam, Bromell now boasts the best 60m and 100m times by an American this year. More top performances from the past week:
