Tuesdays with Toyota spotlights USATF's most dedicated members. Meet Amber Brown, a sprinter and member of the USATF Tennessee Association from Nashville, Tennessee. “Although this is not my first year competing in track and field, this is my very first year competing as a USATF member. I began track at the age of 12! I have been blessed to have an amazing high school and collegiate career and I am currently taking my shot at becoming an elite athlete for Team USA! My journey has been nothing less than challenging as I almost gave up on my dream when my grandfather passed away in 2015. His death caused me to battle severe depression over the course of the last five years. I know in my heart that he would want me to continue pursuing my dreams of becoming an Olympian. I decided to pick this dream back up to make him proud and I am so excited to see what will happen for me this season. No matter what happens throughout my track career, I am running for my grandfather, and those who may be battling mental health. I want people to know that it has always been a dream of mine to become a member of such an amazing organization. I mainly want my supporters to know that you can never give up on your dreams. No matter what circumstances you may be faced with you have to take a full shot at all of your aspirations because you could be the next big thing. You never know what’s around the corner. Being given this opportunity to be a part of the USATF community has not only helped me regain my strength from battling mental health but it has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams to the very fullest. I am thankful to be a part of such a supportive, ambitious, motivated community of individuals. No matter what our individual goals are, we can all come together to do what we love. I want people to know that I am extremely determined. I feel as though every life circumstance I have been faced with has brought me to this very moment. I am from a small town where opportunity never knocks on your door so you have to apply your faith and work ethic to get there. When people look at me I just want them to see a light of ambition and determination more than anything. I am not lucky by any means, but I work for every single opportunity that I have.”
