Orlando, Florida — USATF announced its Wing Awards winners during the 2021 USATF Night of Legends event, part of the 2021 USATF Annual Meeting. Best Olympic Performance went to Athing Mu, who set an American Record and broke her own U.S. U20 record to win the 800m in 1:55.21. She also anchored the women’s 4x400m relay to Tokyo gold in 3:16.85, the fifth-fastest time ever, with a 48.32 split. Best Olympic Field Performance was no contest with Olympic gold medalist and world record holder Ryan Crouser winning the award after smashing the Olympic record with his winning throw of 23.30m/76-5.5. Crouser was presented with the Jesse Owens award earlier in the evening as the USATF Male Athlete of the Year. Finally, Breakthrough Performer of the Year went to Olympic bronze medalist Molly Seidel who was the first U.S. woman to medal in the Olympic marathon since 2004. She ran a personal best 68:29 for the half marathon which sets her as No. 8 on the all-time U.S. performer list. She kicked off 2021 with a world-leading 69:20 in the half marathon on Jan. 23.
