INDIANAPOLIS — Bettering the American record by more than 10 seconds, Grant Fisher (Portland, Oregon) earned recognition as the ninth USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2022. Winning the Sound Running TEN Sunday night at JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano, California, Fisher moved to No. 7 on the all-time world performer list in the men’s 10,000m with a 26:33.84 that eclipsed the existing American record of 26:44.36, set in 2014 by Galen Rupp. Fisher covered the final 3,200m of the race in 8:21.63, the final 1,600m in 4:06.93, and his last 400m was 57.99. An Olympian at Tokyo in the 5,000m (ninth) and 10,000m (fifth) last summer, Fisher in February clocked the fastest indoor 5,000m ever by an American with a 12:53.73 at Boston University.
