At Saturday morning's American Track League - Louisville meet, Shane Streich of the Atlanta TC took 0.11 seconds off the existing American indoor record in the men's 1000m with a 2:16.16. The existing record is 2:16.27 by Bryce Hoppel, set last year at Staten Island. Streich, who was a semifinalist in the 800m at last summer's Olympic Trials and won the Dr. Sander title last week with a lifetime best 1:46.07, was running the first 1000m of his career and keyed off the pacemaking work of Erik Sowinski to move to No. 8 on the all-time world performer list. Streich's mark is pending verification by the USATF Records Committee.
